Lawrence Nakenzi Padgett is accused of fatally shooting 26-year-old Jevaughn Suckoo at about 7:30 p.m. July 11, 2017, during what was supposed to be a marijuana deal at Suckoo's home in the Renaissance Apartments complex. Padgett's half-brother, Marqavious McCatty, told authorities he stepped between Padgett and Suckoo as they were fighting over a gun. As he did, the gun fired, sending a bullet through McCatty's arm and into Suckoo's head. Suckoo's girlfriend, who was pregnant with their twins, found his body about 30 minutes later. In February 2020 police arrested Padgett and McCatty on third-degree homicide charges.
