  • Should state lawmakers pass laws banning gun sales to people on federal terror watchlists and making police share info in background checks?
Yes. Assault rifles used to be called "Military Assault Rifles", they have a use in the hands of military personnel and for law enforcement personnel who unfortunately regularly encounter well armed criminals. They do not belong in the hands of those who would cause harm in our communities.
Should the Legislature pass civil rights laws prohibiting discrimination against LGBT Floridians at work, in housing, restaurants and hotels?
Yes. I am proud to be endorsed by Equality Florida, the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council, the National Organization for Women and more. I will work with these groups to make sure all residents in Florida are treated equally no matter their sexual preferences or gender.
Should lawmakers delay using the Florida Standards Assessments for evaluating schools and teachers until there's more confidence in the test?
Because of flawed testing, the best interests of our students and their families are not served with test results determining retention or graduation. Nor are they the most effective method for teacher evaluation or for assigning school grades. I plan on working with parent and student advocates, the Florida Education Association and local Classroom Teachers Association on their suggested agenda for the upcoming session so we can put our schools on the right track for student success.
Is giving economic incentive money to firms willing to move to Florida a good way to expand and attract companies that create jobs?
No, not when there is little accountability for their employment goals or penalty for failure to meet them. I am more in favor of support for local small, medium and family owned businesses who might actually hire more local workers as their business growth is encouraged.
Are there government records or meetings subject to public disclosure that should be exempt from Florida’s government-in-the-sunshine laws?
No. Sunshine is the best disinfectant.
