Dennis Travarca "could out surf you, out man you, out anything you," a friend wrote on Facebook five days after Dennis became the second person to die in 24 hours at the same Haverhill home.

Another friend wrote, "You were so amazing and loved by all. Especially all us ladies."

Both Travarca and Russell Pettigrew used heroin that police traced to a man in an apartment complex on nearby Stacey Street, a man police later would arrest on various drug charges but never in the deaths of either of these men.

Dennis' mother told a deputy her son had been "abusing narcotics and alcohol for the past 10 years" and had been "in and out of several rehabilitation programs."

He was 40.
